Scottish-American startup Scrapp celebrates after winning big at young business conference

Billed as the the number one entrepreneurship e-conference for students and researchers, Edventure puts young business talent in the same virtual room as bigwigs from organisations such as NASA, Harvard, Vestd, SpaceX and Sequoia.

The most recent Edinburgh-based conference also offered a prize package worth £60,000 for the most outstanding business concepts.

Huge prize package for best business ideas

The impressive prize package included unlimited use of project management software ClickUp, free subscriptions to premium equity software Vestd and tens of thousands of pounds worth of legal contract assistance from Lexagle.

Competitors had to give a three minute Dragon’s Den style pitch to judges in a gruelling test of the budding entrepreneurs’ business acumen and ideas.

Three companies were chosen representing three sectors. The winners were Scrapp (Social and Environmental), Synbiote (Technology) and Fabrio (Business, Consumer and Services).

Scrapp’s Co-Founder and CBA, Evan Gwynne Davies said that the company was “thrilled” to have been chosen by the judges.

Transformative tech for good

Scrapp’s innovative free-to-use app seeks to reduce global waste. In a nutshell, users can use the app to scan their waste items to find out what can be recycled in their area. For every item recycled, the Scrapp team also removes ocean plastic.

Vestd’s Founder and CEO, Ifty Nasir stated that Scrapp stood out as a winning entry and that “their company ethos is in line with our own - to help people and to make the world a better place. Their app will help local authorities and organisations to roll out efficient recycling programmes around the world. It’s transformative tech for good and it benefits everybody who uses it.”

“Over the past three months, Scrapp has already diverted over 13,000 items from landfill and the team is just getting started. I predict huge things for this company and am only too happy to help them out on their journey by providing them with our contribution to their prize pot - free subscriptions to our equity management software.”

Evan Gwynne Davies was thrilled to receive the prize on behalf of Scrapp and stated that, “We are so grateful that the judges chose us and the prize package gives us everything we need to accelerate our success. In particular, the Vestd software will be fantastic in helping the business manage its shares distribution for future employees - Vestd has already been great in helping us understand the terminologies and options available to us as a company, making the task much less daunting!”

Calling all future Elon Musks

Edventure will be back later this year so if you’re just starting out in business and fancy yourself as the next Elon Musk, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for details of the next competition and conference.
