Schools in North Ayrshire are using facial recognition software for payments.
In Brief:
Today (Monday), nine schools in North Ayrshire are launching payments by facial recognition in the school canteen.
CRB Cunninghams has installed the equipment across the schools.
It should cut the transaction time to five seconds per pupil.
What does this mean?
The Financial Times has reported that the system has been put in place for speed as well as to enable Covid-19 social distancing measures. Several schools in the UK already use biometrics solutions like fingerprint scanning to pay for lunches. However, some people have argued that children have not been given enough information to make a decision on whether their facial recognition data should be used.
