Admiral Group’s comparison businesses align to accelerate global growth
  • Admiral’s comparison businesses will align under Penguin Portals as they embark on a mission to empower even more people to make better decisions about financial services.
  • Penguin Portals is the largest network of its kind in the world with platforms in six countries and a combined turnover in excess of £140 million.
  • Elena Betés, CEO of Penguin Portals, heads up a team of global leaders with a proven track-record in the tech and financial service sectors.

Comparison businesses owned by Admiral Group plc have aligned under Penguin Portals. The alignment comes as Penguin Portals embarks on a mission to empower customers from across the world to make better decisions about financial services.

Penguin Portals will form the largest network of comparison platforms for financial services in the world with a combined turnover of £140 million and an ambition for further global growth. It has launched and established operations across six countries, including the UK, Spain, France, Mexico, Turkey and India.

The network of comparison platforms made up of two holding-groups – Penguin Portals Group2 and Preminen3.

A subsidiary of Admiral Group plc, Penguin Portals Group consists of comparison operations in the UK (Confused.com1), Spain (Rastreator.com) and France (LeLynx.fr)2. Admiral Technologies, a specialised tech centre in India, also sits under the Penguin Portals Group umbrella and is charged with developing a global architecture strategy to support the growing number of operations.

Penguin Portals Group has a close relationship with Preminen3 – another subsidiary of Admiral Group plc and joint venture with MAPFRE – which incubates start-up comparison businesses as they grow. Expansion into new territories has accelerated over the last three years with the opening of Rastreator.mx in Mexico, Tamoniki.com in Turkey, and GoSahi.com in India, all of which sit under Preminen as start-up platforms.

Elena Betés is CEO of European and Emerging Comparison Platforms at Admiral Group plc and heads up Penguin Portals. She founded Rastreator.com in 2009, which is now Spain’s leading comparison platform for financial services, and is celebrating its 10th year. Elena was CEO of the business until 2015 and she has been named one of the Top 100 Women Leaders in Spain on two occasions. Her ambition is to replicate the same success she achieved in launching Rastreator.com by starting up comparison platforms across the world and empowering even more people to make decisions about financial services. Under Penguin Portals, she will bring together a shared culture across the six operations to be ‘stronger together’, ‘thrive in competitive conditions’, ‘embrace equality’ and do things a little ‘differently’.

Elena heads up a diverse and talented leadership team with a proven track record in the financial services and tech sectors. Her team includes Louise O’Shea, CEO of Confused.com, Fernando Summers Gil, CEO of Rastreator.com, Itzal Arbide, CEO of LeLynx.fr, Peter Balbach, Managing Director of Admiral Technologies, Pedro Tabernero, CEO of Preminen, Angel Hidalgo, CEO of Rastreator.mx, Elif Askoy Yenidunya, CEO of Tamoniki.com and Gaurav Kumar, CEO of GoSahi.com.

Elena Betés, CEO of Penguin Portals, said: “We’re on a mission to empower people across the world to make better decisions about financial services. We did that with the launch of Confused.com in the UK 17 years ago and we’ve gone on to realise that ambition in Spain and France. Now we’re starting to do the same in Mexico, Turkey and India.

“Our comparison businesses have always worked closely together – this is part of the reason we have been so successful in launching new operations across the world. But to strengthen our position we need our unity to be even more tangible. Aligning under Penguin Portals will help us achieve this.

“But why penguins? Penguins thrive in competitive conditions. They are diverse. They believe in equality. They do things differently. Embodying our penguin culture will strengthen our position to achieve our end goal – to empower people to choose better.”
