2021 Budget confirms visa commitment for tech talent

The 2021 Budget on Wednesday outlined a commitment to boost access to talent.

In Brief:

Chancellor Sunak announced that an “elite points-based" visa will be introduced by 2022.

It will include a “scaleup” stream for people with a job offer from a “recognised UK scaleup”.

It will focus on “highly skilled” talent from the areas of academia, science, research and technology.

What does this mean?

The announcement follows a recommendation for tech visas within the Kalifa Review into UK FinTech. The Government has also promised to reform the Global Talen Visa, launch a Global Business Mobility Visa by spring 2022 for overseas businesses to establish themselves in the UK, and support SMEs by making the visa sponsorship system “easier” to use.
