UK raises contactless limit

The contactless payment limit in shops around the UK will increase from £30 to £45.

In Brief:

  • This has been announced by the British Retail Consortium.

  • The move aims to reduce the spread of coronavirus by encouraging cashless and eliminating the need to touch a PIN pad.

  • It will become operational in some stores across the UK by 1 April, before rolling out nationwide.

What does this mean?

According to BRC, the move comes after extensive pressure from the group as well as consumer demand. It has also warned some shops will take longer than others to roll out the service due to excessive strain they are under at the moment.
