Boris Johnson has touted Britain’s innovative financial services sector at the UK-Africa Investment Summit.
In Brief:
-
Johnson said the UK’s “mindbogglingly innovative financial services sector” was helping people in Africa “face the future with confidence”.
-
Over 1500 people attended the summit and £6.5bn worth of deals were announced.
-
Africa’s women entrepreneurs were a huge focus, with 11 women pitching innovative businesses including technology companies.
What does this mean?
The summit played a part in building relationships with countries outside of the EU in preparation for Brexit, and Johnson was keen to highlight the positives of the UK’s decision. He said the changes in immigration rules could mean Africans can “play a part in the hi-tech revolution” and “work with the titans of our financial world”.
