TikTok to work with technology startups for ecommerce

Video sharing platform TikTok is looking to tech startups to help it boost its ecommerce offering. 

In Brief:

TikTok is working to build out a “social commerce” offering where viewers can directly buy products they see on the platform. 

Bytedance, its parent company, is working with YunExpress as a logistics partner. 

It is also working with a Dutch ecommerce business called Channel Engine. 

What does this mean? 

Bytedance has seen success with an ecommerce offering in China but is now trying to expand in the competitive Western market.
