Starling Bank has introduced a second card for people’s bank accounts.
In Brief:
-
The card can link to a user’s existing account so they can give it to someone to spend on their behalf.
-
It’s hoped this will be used for people who can’t currently go out and buy their own essential items.
-
The card has a limit of £200 and can only be used instore.
What does this mean?
The idea of a second bank card has been floated many times as vulnerable people expressed the need for a “carer’s” card that can be loaded with money and allow a carer to purchase items on behalf of others. Now with the coronavirus pandemic it appears this has been fast tracked, especially since the use of cash is discouraged and people can’t get out to the bank or post office.
