The Royal Bank of Scotland has begun testing a contactless fob.
In Brief:
-
Customers can use the contactless system for payments up to £100.
-
It is not necessary to carry a bank card or smartphone.
-
The technology uses biometric technology to verify transactions through a fingerprint.
What does this mean?
The bank has already tested biometric cards but the fob system will allow for a higher payment limit – so it will be interesting to see whether users who are now used to contactless will take this next step. The technology will be tested with 250 customers over three months and works across normal contactless terminals.
