Meta tests cryptocurrency payments with WhatsApp 

WhatApp is testing the ability to make payments in crypto through Novi Wallet. 

In Brief:

Users will be able to make in-app cryptocurrency payments using Meta’s Novi digital wallet. 

Some customers in Guatemala and the US are trialling the payment option.

Currently, the US Pax Dollar can be sent – this is a cryptocurrency with value attached to the US dollar, regulated by New York State. 

What does this mean?

Meta, a rebranded name of the Facebook group which owns the social media platform as well as Instagram, WhatsApp and more, has recently wound down its cryptocurrency project, LIbra – but says it still aims to use the potential of crypto to include more people in the global financial system.
