Mastercard has developed a carbon calculator for banks to integrate into their apps.
In Brief:
It’s been developed through a partnership with Swedish FinTech Doconomy.
Banks will be able to offer customers a view of the emissions generated by their purchases.
This will be shown by tracking their carbon footprint across various spending categories.
What does this mean?
APIs mean that the calculator can be easily integrated into a bank’s app.
Mastercard says that through a study of consumers in 24 countries it has found that the pandemic has prompted “billions to consider more sustainable behaviours”. It says 85% of adults are willing to take “personal action to combat environmental and sustainability issues” this year.
