Mastercard trials digital identity technology

Mastercard is piloting a programme for digital identity.

In Brief:

  • The company is working with Deakin University, Australia, to trial ID verification for exam purposes.

  • Mastercard will also work with Australia Post to integrate its Digital iD solution.

  • The programme hopes to allow people to prove who they are ‘immediately, safely and securely’.

What does this mean?

Mastercard has 10 principles around data including privacy and security. The payments giant has acknowledged that life is increasingly digital and as such a ‘new model’ is needed for considering identity, trust and privacy.
