Mastercard Covid-19 accelerator offers $20mn grants

The Covid-19 Therapeutics Accelerator has announced the recipients of a total of $20mn.

In Brief:

  • These include the University of Washington, University of Oxford and La Jolla Institute for Immunology.

  • The accelerator was launched by Mastercard, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Wellcome.

  • It aims to speed the development of, and access to, therapies for Covid-19.

What does this mean?


Through the grants, the three institutions will seek to understand how existing drugs and antibodies will contribute to the solution for this global pandemic. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has stressed that “sound science and shared data” are the way forward.
