A new survey by London Tech Week has found that 68% of respondents say gender perception is still “the biggest obstacle” for women entering the tech industry.
In Brief:
60% said stereotyping is a barrier and 48% cited “lack of schooling”.
57% also mentioned a lack of role models as an obstacle to entering the sector.
However, the pipeline of women led startups is slowly beginning to improve.
What does this mean?
The survey asked a number of women their views on what the barriers were to finding jobs and succeeding in the technology industry. Some more practical suggestions made in the survey were offering flexible working opportunities, equal pay, initiatives from companies to educate girls at school, and mentorship programmes.
