Carbon removal platform receives pre-seed investment
IN BRIEF:
- CUR8 has raised £5.3m in pre-seed funding, led by Google Ventures and joined by CapitalT
- CUR8 works with companies removing carbon by direct air capture, biomass storage, soil rewilding, enhanced rock weathering and accelerating carbon cycles in oceans to then sell carbon credits on its platform
- The company was founded by former Google for Startups UK lead Marta Krupinska, non-profit Rethinking Removals founder Dr Gabrielle Walker and Mark Stevenson ex-UK Ministry of Defence advisor
What does this mean?
“I’ve been working in climate science for 30 years and it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and pessimistic about the 2050 net-zero deadlines,” said Dr Gabrielle Walker, co-founder and chief scientist at CUR8. “Carbon removal, along with decarbonisation at scale, has the potential to help us reach these goals, but only if we have the right tools to scale this market to 10 billion tonnes a year by 2050.”
