Google is reportedly interested in moving into Japan’s financial services sector.
In Brief:
Google is reportedly in talks to acquire Japanese business Pring.
Pring is a payments provider which enables transfers via smartphone and computer.
Google is set to pay anywhere between $180-270mn for the FinTech.
What does this mean?
The decision, if it goes ahead, could mean that Google will become much more heavily involved in Japan’s FinTech sector. At present, its payments business Google Pay operates in the country – and has since 2016 – but it is reliant on partnering with local providers.
