Goldman Sachs joins Green Software Foundation 

Goldman Sachs has signed up to a new foundation to promote greener software. 

In Brief:

It's been set up by Microsoft, GitHub, Accenture and ThoughtWorks. 

The organisation will build sets of standards, tools and practices for green software. 

Goldman Sachs if the first financial services organisation to join. 

What does this mean?

The impact of software on the planet, such as the vast amounts of energy used up by data centres, has been under the spotlight recently as businesses and consumers alike commit to lowering their carbon footprint. The foundation aims to help resolve this by coming up with new, “greener” solutions.
