Customers can now pay with a smile in Azerbaijan

SmilePay has rolled out payments through facial recognition in Azerbaijan. 

In Brief: 

SmilePay, a payments business based in Azerbaijan, has inked deals with two grocery businesses. 

Shoppers will be able to buy their groceries and pay via facial recognition. 

SmilePay also has investment from Pasha, an acquiring bank. 

What does this mean? 

The company says its facial recognition system is 99.99% accurate in ideal conditions and can detect users’ features in half a second. The business is part of the Mastercard Start Path accelerator, has already been used for 3000 transactions at the Bravo chain, and plans to expand globally.
