SoftBank to develop blockchain solutions with IBM technology

SoftBank is teaming up with IBM to deliver cross-carrier blockchain solutions

In Brief:

  • The focus will be on technologies allowing smartphone users to make local payments overseas.

  • SoftBank will work with IBM as well as blockchain startup TBCASoft to develop crosscarrier blockchain networks.

  • TBCASoft technology enables clearing between different carriers.

What does this mean?

TBCASoft is part of the Carrier Blockchain Study Group, an 18-member consortium set up by Softbank. IBM has made it clear it won’t join the consortium, but will work to maintain a strong relationship with SoftBank and the other members in order to look at the potential for blockchain.
