London remains leader in green finance

London has come top in Z/Yen and Finance Watch’s global green index.

In Brief:

  • The city has retained the top spot for another year despite progress across Europe.

  • European cities took the top five places in the ranking.

  • London came top in ‘quality’ but Amsterdam was highest commended for ‘depth’.

What does this mean?

It’s positive news for London’s finance sector in showing how it can deliver on a higher social purpose – however, the report warned that as the UK doesn’t yet have a sovereign green bond, it could lose its ranking next year.
