The UK and European fintech startups that raised the most money in 2019

Altfi looks back at the big deals of 2019 and why they matter

In Brief:

  • UK fintech Greensill raised $800m (£607m) from Japanese conglomerate SoftBank
  • OakNorth also benefitted from SoftBank-led funding raising $440m (£334m)
  • Even little known Checkout.com raised $230m (£175m), giving it a valuation of around $2bn (£1.52bn)

What does this mean:

Simply put - the competition for retail banking customers is only going to get more intense in 2020. Get ready for a year of more investment, more innovation and perhaps a bit of consolidation because there might not be room for everybody.
