Starbucks has introduced a pen linked to a digital wallet.
In Brief:
-
Customers in Japan can now pay for their coffee with a pen.
-
Other NFC items offered by the chain include phone cases, flasks and a small purse.
-
The pen uses FeliCa technology.
What does this mean?
The pens will set users back around $40 with $10 credit pre-loaded onto the device – so it will be interesting to see how these sell given many customers can already use contactless cards and phones. FeliCa technology is widely used in Japan.
