New Strong Customer Authentication rules come into force for retailers

 Online retailers are to be impacted by the new Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) rules that have come into force this week. 

In Brief: 

The way people confirm their identity when making online purchases has to change. 

As of 14 March buyers much confirm two of three factors to authenticate their identity, including “something they are, something they know and something they have”. 

This previously applied to a small number of transactions but now it is wider reaching.

What does this mean? 

14 March marked the deadline for online retailers to put these new rules into practice, meaning customers will be asked to verify all purchases through a means such as text message.
