UK FinTech Monzo is now offering paid leave to staff who experience miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion.
In Brief:
The challenger bank will offer two weeks’ leave to either partner affected by these experiences, regardless of gender.
This is also in place for surrogate mothers, with Monzo stating “pregnancy loss doesn’t just affect women or heterosexual partners”.
Staff undergoing fertility treatments also get eight days’ flexible paid leave.
What does this mean?
Monzo says the new policy is part of its ongoing efforts to support employees’ mental health.
Tara Mansfield, director of people experience at Monzo, said: “Pregnancy loss can be unexpected and extremely traumatic and we want out colleagues to feel that they can take the time to recover and that we fully support them in doing that.”
