Mastercard will buy blockchain analytics company CipherTrace
It specialises in cryptocurrency anti-money laundering services - analysing massive amounts of validated blockchain transaction attribution to build up insight on more than 900 cryptocurrencies.
Founded in 2015, CipherTrace was initially funded by the US government’s Department of Homeland Security and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
What does this mean?
In February Mastercard said it would start supporting selected cryptocurrencies directly on its network. CipherTrace will help Mastercard protect against money-laundering and comply with regulations.
