A digital identity pilot is being launched across the European Union with banks and technology firms involved.
In Brief:
A consortium of companies from Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Latvia and Norway are involved.
It's being led by Nobid (the Nordic-Baltic eID Project).
The project aims to deliver a large-scale cross-border payments pilot with the digital ID wallet as a top use case.
What does this mean?
This is part of a wider EU aim to streamline cross-border payments, and will look at payments as a top use case for how digital ID can be combined across borders and currencies.
