With two major banks – NatWest's Ulster Bank and KBC Bank Ireland – soon leaving the market, FinTech Bunq aims to gain a slice of the market.
In Brief:
Bunq has launched current accounts in the Irish market.
They will offer Irish IBANs.
Accounts will be offered via the Amsterdam-based FinTech’s online app.
What does this mean?
Currently, and over the coming year, a large proportion of Irish consumers will be changing their bank account and Bunq aims to offer them an easy way to set up new current accounts and manage their day to day banking. Another competitor in the market is Revolut which gained its full banking licence in the country in March.
