BBVA seeks to partner with “disruptive startups”

Spanish banking giant BBVA is partnering with 500 Global to identify “disruptive startups”.

In Brief:

500 Global is a VC that has over $1.8bn assets under management.

The BBVA-500 Intelligence Platform will attempt to promote collaboration.

It will operate pilot projects between BBVA and a number of startups.

What does this mean?

BBVA aims to encourage innovation and bring in new ideas by working more closely with new startups, identifying trends and researching new technologies.

Javier Rodríguez Soler, Global Head of Sustainability at BBVA, announced the move at Money2020, and commented:

“With the BBVA-500 Intelligence Platform, we will have a front-row seat to the launch of new companies and disruptive trends in priority areas of BBVA’s strategy, such as sustainability. Innovation is needed now more than ever before to accelerate the transition to decarbonization and combat climate change.”
