Ecommerce giant Amazon is testing new payment technology based on users’ hands.
In Brief:
-
The New York Post has reported that Amazon employees are testing the new technology through vending machines.
-
The company is planning to introduce the system to some of its Whole Foods stores in 2020.
-
Rather than the now common fingerprint technology we know, this tech measures the user’s hand so they do not need to touch the payment device.
What does this mean?
It’s not goodbye to cards quite yet, as like with many other ‘futuristic’ methods, the hand identification will need to be connected to a credit card. But it is likely to shave precious seconds off the weekly grocery shop in 2020.
