Checkout.com joins Libra project

British e-commerce FinTech Checkout.com has joined the Libra Association.

In Brief:

  • Libra is Facebook’s digital currency under development, currently referred to as a “basketcoin”.

  • The Association now stands at 25 members.

  • Notable members include Coinbase and Uber, as well as Facebook.

What does this mean?

April also saw Heifer International join the Association, but this follows several high-profile drop outs, including Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, eBay and Stripe.

Checkout.com’s CEO has however said the Association not only shares the FinTech’s philosophy, but has also demonstrated a “thoughtful and realistic” approach to leveraging blockchain. It also aligns with a goal of Libra’s not many can argue with – increasing financial inclusion.
