Barclays pushes forward on open banking

Barclays is using API infrastructure to introduce new features for customers.

In Brief:

  • Customers can now make payments from current accounts held with other banks from within the Barclays app.

  • This is initially rolled out for linked current accounts with NatWest, Nationwide and Bank of Scotland.

  • It will shortly be made available to Santander, Lloyds, Halifax and RBS.

What does this mean?

This use of approved Open Banking API technology is a first for a UK high street bank. Moving forward, Barclays will add other features to its app, such as the ability to save new payments contacts.
