The public are being urged to avoid cash in favour of contactless payments to help avoid the spread of Covid-19.
The World Health Organisation has advised against the use of banknotes.
China and Korea have begun isolating and disinfecting cash.
Contactless payments are suggested to avoid unnecessary handling of money.
What does this mean?
Since money changes hands so often, the WHO says it can pick up various germs and viruses. People are advised to wash their hands if they use banknotes and avoid touching their face. Contactless payments are a good solution as usually a card or mobile are only touched by one individual.
