Ex-Barclays boss to launch crypto bank

Mark Hipperson, formerly head of technology at Barclays, is launching a digital bank.

In Brief:

  • Ziglu will allow people to change multiple currencies, including crypto to fiat.
  • Customers will spend their money using a Mastercard debit card.
  • Hipperson was also CTO at Starling.

What does this mean?

The new offering has been in development for some time, with Hipperson becoming CEO in September 2018. Ziglu has already applied to the FCA to be able to issue money. This will be the first regulated cryptocurrency bank in the UK.
