HSBC offers homeless people bank accounts

HSBC is working with UK charities to support homeless people.

In Brief:

  • People without fixed addresses or photo ID will be able to open bank accounts.

  • This has been piloted in Liverpool and sill now be rolled out.

  • Charities involved include Shelter and Crisis.

What does this mean?

A key issue for homeless people in getting back on their feet is the lack of an address or ID to gain a bank account and other public services. HSBC is working with charities to deal with this exclusion, and has caseworkers for those interested in the service.
