Proposed Deliveroo and Amazon deal comes under scrutiny

The UK Competition and Markets Authority is investigating the proposed investment deal between two giants in the tech space.

In Brief:

  • Amazon led Deliveroo’s series G round which raised $575mn.

  • The CMA will investigate whether the investment results in a “substantial lessening of competition”.

  • A decision will be made by 11 December.

What does this mean?

Ecommerce giant Amazon is looking for a stake in the disruptive meal delivery market, and investment in Deliveroo could be the way forward if it wants to compete with Uber Eats – if it’s given the go ahead.
