Amazon Exec: encouraging ecommerce vital to India

Amazon’s India boss has said ecommerce needs to thrive to counter slow economic growth in India.

In Brief:

  • Amit Agarwal made the comments to Reuters, saying Amazon has created 200,000 jobs since entering the Indian market in 2013.

  • This year India has made regulations tougher on ecommerce companies.

  • Local rivals to Amazon in India include Shopee and Walmartowned Flipkart.
